Housing discrimination is uniquely damaging in that it takes away a person’s sense of safety in his or her own home. It is important that all of us as responsible members of society remain vigilant in addressing both the blatant and subtle forms of housing discrimination that tear at the national fabric.
Reps. Reichert, Yarmuth Introduce the Runaway and Homeless Youth Trafficking Prevention Act
Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-8) and Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) introduced H.R. 1779, the Runaway and Homeless Youth and Trafficking Prevention Act (RHYTPA). This legislation will reauthorize the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act—currently the only federal program targeted solely to help runaway youth—and also add new protections for youth victims of human trafficking or sexual exploitation
Whitfield’s Legislation to Improve Energy Efficiency and Provide Regulatory Relief Clears Committee
The House Energy and Commerce Committee today advanced legislation introduced by Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) to bring regulatory relief to electricity providers and manufacturers across the country. H.R. 906, A Bill to Modify the Efficiency Standards for Grid-Enabled Water Heaters, was approved by the committee by voice vote. The bill enables thermal storage water heaters to continue being manufactured and sold by exempting them from regulation under new Department of Energy efficiency standards
Announcing Fair Housing training session in Berea on April 29
The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights and the Berea Human Rights Commission are sponsoring training on the Kentucky Fair Housing Act on April 29. The training will take place at the Madison County Public Library-Berea Branch, 319 Chestnut Street in Berea from 1 to 3 p.m. (EST). Real estate licensees, landlords, social service providers and government employees are strongly encouraged to attend. The free training is open to the public. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance

Rogers Questions Proposed USDA-RD Cuts to Rural Housing Programs
Today, U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) questioned the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development's proposed budget for fiscal year 2015 during a budget hearing with the U.S. House Appropriations Committee on which he serves as chairman. Specifically, Chairman Rogers asserted his concern for proposed cuts to Rural Housing programs, like the Section 502 Direct Loan and Section 523 Mutual and Self Help Housing programs.
