Kentucky Historical Society markers to commemorate Burlington history

FRANKFORT, Ky. – May 20, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Two new Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) historical markers, one at the Dinsmore Homestead and the other in downtown Burlington, will highlight early Burlington history.

Dedication ceremonies are set for the first week in June.

The Dinsmore Homestead dedication will be Sunday, June 1, at 3 p.m. EDT at 5656 Burlington Pike. The house, which dates to 1842, was home to James and Martha Macomb Dinsmore and was the center of a typical large, antebellum Boone County farm.

Burlington, itself, is the subject of a marker that will be dedicated Sunday, June 8, at 3 p.m. EDT at 2988 Washington St. The marker notes the county seat’s start as Craig’s Camp in 1799 and its name change in 1816 to Burlington.

The Boone County Historical Society sponsors both markers.

More than 2,200 historical markers statewide tell Kentucky’s history. KHS administers the Kentucky Historical Marker Program in cooperation with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
