PSC to Hold Home Energy Workshop in Perry County – March 10 session will offer information on electric bills, energy savings
March 3, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a Home Energy Workshop on Thursday, March 10 in Hazard. The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. in the old circuit courtroom at the Perry County Courthouse.
“This unusually cold winter has driven up heating bills and made an already difficult economic situation even worse for many Kentuckians,” PSC Chairman David Armstrong said. “The PSC is very aware of the hardships facing many state residents and has been working hard to assist the many hundreds of ratepayers who have called the PSC seeking help and information.
“A majority of the calls have come from eastern Kentucky, where it has been coldest and where the higher energy bills appear to have hit hardest,” Armstrong said. “That is why the PSC is increasing its efforts to help Kentuckians manage their energy costs.”
The workshop is being held at the invitation of Perry County Fiscal Court and two state legislators who represent Perry County, Sen. Brandon Smith and Rep. Fitz Steele.
The workshop will include a presentation that will help customers better understand their electric bills and determine the reasons for changes in those bills. After the presentation, there will be opportunities to meet with and ask questions of the following:
* PSC staff, who can answer questions about rates, customer rights and other matters pertaining to utilities under PSC jurisdiction.
* Representatives of Kentucky Power Co., who will be able to answer questions about billing, energy efficiency programs and energy assistance programs.
* Representatives of the local Community Action Agency, who will be able to provide information about energy assistance programs.
* Home energy efficiency experts will provide information about weatherization and other ways to reduce energy bills.

The PSC held a similar workshop in Letcher County last month and is planning to hold similar events elsewhere in Kentucky. They will be announced as they are scheduled.
The PSC is an independent agency attached for administrative purposes to the Energy and Environment Cabinet. It regulates more than 1,500 gas, water, sewer, electric and telecommunication utilities operating in Kentucky and has approximately 100 employees.
