Energy and Environment Cabinet accepts applications for recycling, household hazardous waste grants
February 10, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Energy and Environment Cabinet’s (EEC) Division of Waste Management is accepting grant applications for projects that develop an integrated recycling infrastructure, manage household hazardous waste and offer public education programs relating to recycling and household hazardous waste management.
“Recycling is a simple way to help the environment and to help the budgets of local governments,” said EEC Secretary Len Peters. “These grant funds provide opportunities for communities to start recycling programs that keep waste out of expensive landfills. They also provide funds for educational programs that reach out to the public and inform them about the benefits of recycling.
“I encourage local communities and school districts to apply,” added Peters.
Grant funding comes from the Kentucky Pride Fund and is underwritten by a $1.75 per ton fee on municipal solid waste disposed of in Kentucky’s contained landfills.
Local governments, solid waste management districts, schools and universities are eligible to apply. Priority is given to applications for regional and/or joint projects.
Applications must be received by close of business on April 1 at EEC’s Division of Waste Management, 200 Fair Oaks, 2nd Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. The original and one copy of the entire application and any supporting documentation must be submitted in order for an application to be complete. Each grant requires a 25 percent local match.
