WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, led the charge on the House Floor today ahead of his vote in support of H.R. 3797, the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment (SENSE) Act. This bill would make limited adjustments to EPA rules to ensure that the coal refuse-to-energy industry continues its vital mission of providing affordable energy and remediating formerly-polluted sites across coal producing regions.
“It is not often that Congress has the opportunity to help an industry that creates both jobs and energy while also improving the environment, and it is especially rare when we can do it at no cost to the taxpayer,” said Chairman Whitfield. “Many communities in coal country are struggling economically and coal refuse continues to cause serious environmental and public health problems but the SENSE Act helps address both these concerns.”
