FRANKFORT, KY – October 27, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet, Division of Surplus Properties, conducted two auctions in the past week netting over $110,000. Two more auctions are scheduled in November.
“Gov. Beshear has continually stressed to each cabinet secretary how critical it is that every dollar is stretched as far as possible and that we conserve money at every opportunity to help with our very difficult budget circumstances,” said Secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet Jonathan Miller. “These surplus auctions generate much-needed revenue in tough economic times while also offering good deals for Kentuckians biding on a wide range of items.”
On Oct. 23, the Division of Surplus Property held an auction at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park for the Department of Parks that generated approximately $23,100. A second auction was held at the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources headquarters at the Salato Wildlife Center on Oct. 26 and generated over $87,600.
Items sold at auctions for the Department of Parks often consist of outdated or superfluous furniture, televisions and equipment from the maintenance departments. Agency surplus vehicles, tractors, boats and motors, farming equipment and hunting equipment that had been forfeited under court-order were the main attractions at Fish and Wildlife’s Salato Wildlife Education Center auction.
“The agencies in our cabinet – including Kentucky State Parks and the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources – work with the public every day,” said Tourism, Arts and Heritage Secretary Marcheta Sparrow. “These auctions are a great opportunity for Kentuckians to purchase items of interest while also demonstrating how this administration is working to be efficient and cost effective.”
The Division of Surplus Properties will hold a silent auction at their warehouse located at 999 Chenault Road in Frankfort on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Miscellaneous state-owned property and a variety of personal property, including items confiscated at airport security lines, will be available for bidding.
The Department of Parks will host another auction at the Lake Cumberland Sate Resort Park in Jamestown on Nov. 13. Sale items may include televisions, golf carts, furniture, boats and maintenance equipment. A complete listing will not be available until the day of the auction.
