Kentucky Housing Corporation Announces 2010 Emergency Shelter Grant Funding

-

July 5, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) has announced the latest recipients, outside of Fayette and Jefferson Counties, of Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) funds.  Forty-six projects proposed by nonprofit agencies and local governments will receive a total of $1,338,030 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist the homeless in Kentucky.

The ESG program, administered throughout most of the state by KHC, is a federal program that helps convert and rehabilitate structures for use as emergency or transitional shelters, to fund the operation and service expenses of these shelters, and to develop programs that prevent homelessness.

KHC will conduct an ESG implementation training on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Blue Grass Community Action Partnership building located at 111 Professional Court in Frankfort.  All 2010 ESG recipients are required to attend.  Additional information regarding this training will be available in the near future.

For more information about KHC’s ESG program, contact Jill House or Heather Harvey toll-free in Kentucky at (800) 633-8896 or (502) 564-7630, extensions 705 or 777, respectively; TTY 711; or e-mail jhouse (at) kyhousing (dot) org or hharvey (at) kyhousing (dot) org, respectively.

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), created by the 1972 General Assembly, is a self-supporting, public corporation of the Commonwealth of Kentucky administratively attached to the Finance and Administration Cabinet.  A portion of Kentucky Housing's funds are derived from the interest earned through the sale of tax-exempt mortgage revenue bonds.

From these proceeds, Kentucky Housing has made homeownership possible for over 82,000 Kentucky families.  Kentucky Housing also operates through the receipt of fees for administering federal programs including rental assistance that makes safe, decent, affordable housing available to more than 27,000 low-income Kentuckians.
