WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Green River Correctional Complex, (GRCC) in Central City, received a near-perfect audit score on its recent re-accreditation audit with the American Correctional Association (ACA). The prison received a total score of 99.8 percent. GRCC received its initial accreditation in 1997 and this audit marks the seventh accreditation in the history of the institution.
“The facility is one of the cleanest I have seen in my 30 years in corrections,” said Audit Chairman Rick Hart. “The kitchen was exceptionally clean. You can tell that this is a well-run facility by the cleanliness of the facility and the interaction between staff and inmates. Staff and offenders respect one another with no sign of tension on the yard.”
Warden Alan Brown also congratulated the GRCC employees. “The outcome of this audit is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the staff and inmates who have put so much effort into this audit. They are the ones who earned this score and I am very proud of them.”
“Health Care is very good and you can see that medical is more than meeting the medical needs of the institution,” said Medical Auditor Jean Motlz. “Inmates are being well treated.”
Department of Commissioner LaDonna Thompson also congratulated the GRCC employees. “I’m very proud of the staff at Green River Correctional Complex,” said Thompson. “This score speaks volumes about their level of commitment to the job. This isn’t something that you prepare for at the last minute – it takes a great deal of time and effort to meet the high standards set forth by the ACA. It requires a lot of hard work on a daily basis to consistently maintain this level of performance.”
The institution will go before the commission on accreditation at the ACA conference in Indianapolis later this year.
ACA accreditation consists of more than 500 national standards that cover security, operational and programming aspects of a prison and require constant monitoring and quality control checks. Each prison is audited by ACA every three years and has an interdepartmental audit (Program Security Review) every year. Kentucky has been a member of ACA since the early 1980s.
