Deputy Secretary Victor Mendez to address automotive conference, visit downtown bridge

FRANKFORT, Ky. – September 14, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Steve Beshear announced today that U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation Victor Mendez, a champion for the nation’s vital transportation infrastructure, will visit Louisville next week to speak to an automotive conference and to view progress on the downtown Ohio River bridge project.

On Tuesday, Deputy Secretary Mendez will serve as the keynote speaker to the Kentucky Automotive Industry Association’s inaugural AutoVision conference, which will focus on the future of the state’s thriving auto industry. Afterward, he will join Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen in visiting the construction of the downtown bridge, which is scheduled to be completed and open to traffic in less than four months.

“Any time we welcome a high-ranking cabinet official to Kentucky, we have an opportunity to showcase how we’re doing things right in the Commonwealth,” said Gov. Beshear. “Kentucky ranks number one per capita in the U.S. in light vehicle production and third overall, and the success of that industry depends heavily on reliable and safe transportation infrastructure. Deputy Secretary Mendez is well-acquainted with the innovative Ohio River Bridges project, and we are proud to show our progress.”

While serving at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Mendez has been a pivotal and supportive leader in major transportation infrastructure projects in the Kentucky and Indiana region including the $2.3 billion Ohio River Bridges Project, the emergency repair of the Sherman Minton Bridge, and a $24 million TIGER grant for a key segment of the Mountain Parkway Expansion in eastern Kentucky.
