Former Ft. Campbell Soldier Sentenced for Theft of Government Property

PADUCH, KY – December 15, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Jonathan Morgan Harris, age 25, of Detroit, Michigan, was sentenced to five and one-half months’ imprisonment in United States District Court, Paducah, Kentucky, for theft of government property, United States Attorney David J. Hale of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.

Thomas B. Russell, Chief Judge, United States District Court, also sentenced Harris to two years’ supervised release following imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal judicial system. In addition, restitution in the amount of $180.36 was imposed.

On September 27, 2010, Harris had pled guilty to theft of government property and admitted that at some time between about January 6, 2009 and January 11, 2009, he had entered on Ft. Campbell military base in Christian County, Kentucky in the Western District of Kentucky, and stole a 2002 four-door Chevrolet Blazer motor vehicle for his personal use. The vehicle was owned by a United States government agency, the General Services Administration, and had a value of about $8,300. Harris had also stolen a General Services Administration credit card and incurred charges of $180.36 for purchases of gasoline.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Sparks, and it was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.
