First Lady Jane Beshear joins state employees to kick-off the State Office Building “Go Green Expo”
FRANKFORT, KY – April 20, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, First Lady Jane Beshear joined Personnel Cabinet Secretary Nikki Jackson, Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Jonathan Miller and Department of Revenue Commissioner Tom Miller to commence the State Office Building “Go Green Expo” 2010 in Frankfort, Kentucky.
The Personnel Cabinet and the Kentucky Department of Revenue merged their green teams, comprised of employees who work in the State Office Building, to help address consumption and savings strategies for the entire building. The team organized the expo to celebrate Earth Day as well as to inform and educate state employees about the key environmental components of reduce, reuse and recycle.
“Through their creativity and dedication to sustainability, these Commonwealth employees are setting an impressive example,” said First Lady Jane Beshear. “This expo shows how a few individuals can work together to create innovative solutions and dynamic opportunities for greener living at work and at home.”
The expo features a variety of exhibitors including: the Division of Water, the Division for Air Quality, Kentucky Excel from the Division of Compliance Assistance, the Frankfort Electric and Water Plant Board, the Division of Waste Management, Bluegrass Pride, Water Watch and Watershed Watch and the Frankfort Climate Action Network. Exhibitors will be sharing information on ways people can lessen their negative impact on the environment and be more energy efficient.
“Over the past year Personnel Cabinet employees began the diligent work of creating innovation champion groups,” said Nikki Jackson. “The idea behind innovation champions was to provide groups of employee the opportunity to join together to address various topics important to them. And, this week’s events are a hallmark to all of the significant work and success the Green Team has achieved together.”
“The Go Green Expo is an excellent exhibit of the many small energy conservation practices that can be implemented in the workplace and at home to help preserve our planet while also reducing utility costs,” said Jonathan Miller, secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet. “Employee participation and support plays a significant role in operating the most sustainable government buildings as we continue to make great progress towards Gov. Beshear’s aggressive goals for reducing energy consumption in public facilities.”
“Our state employees should be commended for realizing and taking advantage of this opportunity to spotlight what steps each of us can take, whether at work or at home, to find ways to reduce energy consumption,” said Energy and Environment Secretary Len Peters. “Energy efficiency and conservation are the quickest and easiest solutions to addressing the need to become better stewards of the resources we have while exploring alternative energy supplies that will help reduce our carbon footprint.”
Frankfort state employees are invited to attend the expo, which runs through April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at the State Office Building, 1st floor lobby, 501 High Street, Frankfort, Ky.
