Barren River Invites Groups to Design Scarecrows for Park Trail

-

LUCAS, KY – August 31, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Barren River Lake State Resort Park is sponsoring the second annual Trail of Scarecrows event aimed at families, schools, businesses and other groups that can apply their imaginations to the task of designing and  building these fanciful figures.

The scarecrows will be displayed at the park Oct. 1-31, 2009.  The deadline for submitting an entry is Sept. 24. The scarecrows, along with laminated signs indicating the names and builders, will be placed along the paved trail throughout the park for visitors to see as they hike or bike. A section of trail is also visible along Park Road, and visitors will be able to see some of them on their drive into the park.

Families, schools, businesses and corporations are encouraged to enter scarecrows to be displayed.  There is a $20 registration fee per scarecrow.  One half of each registration will be donated to the Kentucky Employees Charitable Contributions campaign, which aids worthy causes throughout the state. Kentucky State Park gift cards will be awarded to the first, second and third place scarecrows.

For specific guidelines on registration and scarecrow construction, and to receive a registration form, contact Lisa Deavers at 270-464-2151, ext. 2415 or at lisa.deavers (at) ky (dot) gov. Recycled items are highly encouraged for use in construction.
