Homeless to be Counted throughout State
January 28, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) –
What: A statewide count of homeless Kentuckians of all ages living in shelters, on the streets, and other places not meant for human habitation is being coordinated by Kentucky Housing Corporation. The count will also include precariously housed Kentuckians, defined as people living in substandard housing conditions, doubled- or tripled-up with family and friends, or expecting eviction within seven days.
When:Â Thursday, January 28, 2010, a 24-hour period beginning 12 midnight until 11:59 p.m., local time.
Where:Â Various locations throughout the state, including homeless shelters, city streets, and places not meant for human habitation.
Who:Â Volunteers with the assistance of local officials.
Why: The Point-In-Time Count helps determine how much funding will be available for homeless assistance in the state.  In addition, the count helps assess progress under Kentucky’s Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness and provides important information for updating the plan.
For more information about the count or to be paired with a volunteer participating in the count, contact Kentucky Housing Corporation’s Laurent Houekpon toll-free in Kentucky at (800) 633-8896 or (502) 564-7630, extension 304; TTY 711; or e-mail lhouekpon (at) kyhousing (dot) org. You may also visit Kentucky Housing’s Web site, www.kyhousing.org, under Specialized Housing.
